I know that I'm thought of us an idiot on these forums but i think i can do it should I start with textures?

Starting with textures isn't a terrible idea as it will help you with knowledge of formats and locations of things.

I would suggest trying something like a wing or rim [convert from another game] , so you get a idea of 3d, formats, a little rpk work and java/cfgs.

^^ If your end goal is a whole car.

well texturing isnt a bad idea too.
you should try that and then if you are still interested then start modeling like

Start of by doing a engine kit script for a existing motor...I will try to find the tutorial and add it to this post for you.
