Starting with textures isn't a terrible idea as it will help you with knowledge of formats and locations of things.
I would suggest trying something like a wing or rim [convert from another game] , so you get a idea of 3d, formats, a little rpk work and java/cfgs. ^^ If your end goal is a whole car. |
