This is an idea I had since a long time ago but never went into try create until now which is to script a transmission adapter so you can etc use the V8 transmissions or the I6 transmissions at the I4 and the other way around.

The main idea for this was to make more use of the original parts beyond how the developers at first thought the game should be designed without having to be concerned of the need of merging two individual engines through scripting to be interchangeable at certain if not all parts in between when you can use small mods that uses external links.

At first I borrowed most of the lines from a .java of the scripts file for flywheels with some changes so the part using the file (.java and not a class as the original files) accept transmissions in the same manner as clutches for a individual file for such parts but it did not work (crashes the game when loading the part in-game).

At the second attempt I experimented if you could instead use the lines of the .java for blocks to get it working, which this time allowed the part to appear in-game without an immediate shut down of the game after some tweaks at both the .java for the mod that uses it and the .java of the mod itself.

At the looks of it, it seems as a promising start but when you look at the dyno to check the performance, the game thinks there is no transmission installed despite that there is a part to connect the engine with the transmission when using this part mounted in between.

Seems as trying to script a part to act as a middle part for a transmission from one engine to be used on a different engine is harder than I thought.

If you got any solution, please recommend what would make this concept to work.

You mean as in saving in-game so you could reset to those in case if the ratios got messed up? Never thought of that far though.

This is something I shortly talked about to Harrison regarding the RB26, I wanted to make the bell housing a separate piece of the transmission so that different transmissions can be swapped in. Nothing is exported or scripted as of yet, but it's for sure something to try.

Do you happen to know how to script a such thing?

Here is what I got so far:

A .java file that functions similarly to that of the .class files for extensions such as transmission, block and so on.

A mod that is supposed to use this extension
