I got tired of having a separate thread for my engine project and then only posting new car things in Show Off Your Rides. Here's a new thread, so that I can post my mods all in one place. :-D

This is my latest project - a Holden VE Commodore, based off of the Pontiac G8 from Forza Motorsport 3, with parts from the HSV W427 and Holden V8 Supercar. Thank you to Robban for extracting these models from FM3 and converting them to .3DS for me.

Forgive the lame LE in-garage pics. I mostly wanted to have something to post at all.

Pontiac G8 GXP parts

HSV W427 parts. These were harder than they looked to fit to the G8 body, because Turn 10 screwed up the proportions between the three different car models. (Hood and rear parts not done yet.)

A handful of Holden Omega parts (look at the headlights and door handles)

G8 GT / GXP tail lights

Lights for G8 V6 / all Commodores except SS V and Calais

Plans:
  • Detachable badging
  • HSV rear bumper and tail lights
  • Pontiac G8 and HSV W427 wheels
  • Re-colorable interior (by exchanging textures, not by painting / changing parts in-game)
  • Right-hand-drive chassis
  • Sunroof delete?
  • Light glows on all body parts
  • Possible coupe variant (like the Coupe 60 but with just standard parts)

If anyone has any reasonable requests for parts for this car, I will be happy to try and fulfill them. (Alternatively, if anyone wants to make parts for this car, that would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently trying to figure out how to get / make Holden Commodore SS, Holden Omega, and Pontiac G8 GT front bumpers.)

Also, before I go any further with this car, how is the scale? The car is on 19" wheels and looks correct to me, but might still be a little big. It looks a little bit bigger than it is because the tires are really thin and the wheels are definitely not flush with the fenders.

Those are 19" wheels indeed. But like I said, the car is also on really small tires, with shocks that are too low, and really bad "sink" offset. For reference, this is a picture of the real car on the stock 19" wheels:

In a minute I'll upload a picture of the car with higher shocks and better offset. If it still looks big after that, then I'll change the scale.

Added 5 minutes later:

To me, this looks the same as the above picture. The only thing I changed between this and the previous pictures (other than the color) is the wheel offset - I changed it from +0.0 to +20.0, so that they are further out and closer to flush with the fenders. It might be a *little* bit big, maybe by about 2%.

After looking at these pics, if you think I'm wrong and the car does in fact need rescaling, then I'll definitely rescale the car. It would probably still be realistic if I scaled it down by 2-5%, though my personal preference is that I prefer cars that are a little too big to cars that are a little too small (though, of course, more accurate is always better).

i like it, but imho it's too big
there's an easy way to scale a car properly:
firstly check real car's wheelbase (at wikipedia for example) and mod's wheelbase (you can see it in car's information menu), then divide real car's wheelbase by mod's wheelbase and rescale your mod with result of calculation. If you'll do everything correct, you'll get a nicely scaled car and correct (or at least close to) real car's wheelbase will be shown in car information.

I thought about that, but SLRR's scale is wrong enough that if I did that, it would have looked even more off. I don't really care about the wheelbase it says in the info screen.

It says 109.3 inches in SLRR, and the real-life wheelbase is bigger at 114.8 inches. If I scaled the car to the wheelbase, it would be even more inaccurate.

Yeah, since I've heard from four people that it's a little big, I'm considering rescaling it now. It's probably within 2% of the "real" scale.

The lip spoiler is definitely going to be included since it was part of the FM3 model. As far as the HSV GTS bumper, that depends on whether or not my modeling skills allow me to do that (or whether someone else with better 3D skills decides to do it for me). I'll look into that alongside the Commodore SS, Omega, and G8 G8 bumpers.

You should probably scale it down just for SLRR's sake to fit 18" wheels stock since It's not like anyone makes 21" wheels and other 19's probably wont make it look that much better than stock.
