Just in case anyone's curious, I was writing down the shit I saw during the Sony conference, so in case anyone's curious what went down and/or what I think, feel free to read.

So, tonight's the big night everyone remotely interested in electronics or gaming was waiting for. The reveal of the great Playstation 4 that would bring world peace, cure AIDS and get all the pesky flies of African kids' faces. Would. Well, would've.

There have been no real specs annouced, just use of a lot of buzzwords like "supercharged" and "modified" and "extreme". The one thing we know is that it has 8 GB of unified memory. Also, it's using GDDR5. And that's about it. So, the bar is set pretty damn low, given that hardware-wise it's pretty much a mid-range gaming PC.

On the plus side the PS4 will have a sleep function, which is pretty cool, because you can stop at any point, put your console into low-power mode, storing whatever you were playing in the RAM and then resume instantly once you "wake the console up".

And back to the use of buzzwords: I think we can all figure out what audience they're aiming for. F**KING CASUALS!

It seems that because technology has now become so simple every idiot and their grandmother can use it, and because of moronic shows like The Big Bang Theory, gaming has become one of those socially acceptable things to do. That's not a bad thing; not really. The bad thing is, there's a giant influx of morons that cannot enjoy gaming in pure form, so now a game, and implicitly its platform has to be dumbed down and put into a small box with a pretty pink tie on it so it won't be too difficult, or by Lord, offensive to these sheltered people.

Many companies have already shifted their focus to these casual "OMG I'm such a nerd xD le reddit arrow to the knee lololol" morons, so a few were hoping Sony would shift focus back to the core videogame enthusiasts. Well, they dun goof'd because not even five minutes in, you were already assaulted by words like "simple"; "social media" and "casual". Now if I were to take a shot of vodka every time they said those words, right now I wouldn't be writing this, but lying in a hospital bed, in alcohol-induced coma.

And by God, they have a motherfucking SHARE button on the controller for instant sharing of screenshots and whatnot. No, I don't mean to sound enthusiastic - this is a bad thing.

Where do you share these screenshots? Well, on the PlayStation Network, of course, which will be conveintently turned into a sort of Facebook for PS4 (and possibly PS3) users. I'm writing this while watching the stream, and they still haven't announced a price, but I'm guessing it's 599 USD once more. Apparently, so far it's just a $599 glorified Facebook machine. Why do I say that? Do you remember the PS3 having almost no launch titles? Well, it's that time again. Not a lot of interesting or worthwhile launch titles, with a couple of exceptions.

So, besides the absolutely necessary pretentious hipster bullshit game with shit graphics and gameplay from the start that they used to demonstrate connectivity between the PS Vita and PS4, they show us Killzone: Shadow Fall. Graphically, no different from previous Killzone games, with no remarkable progress regarding lighting or physics. However, the animations are absolutely horrendous (and hopefully still WIP). And they're still very fond of the nauseatingly low 60 degree field of view.

Skip some more pretentious hipster bullshit game with shit graphics and gameplay and they show "Driveclub". New IP, looks a and feels a lot like a strange cross between Forza: Horizon and Test Drive Unlimited 2 (yes, that means it's focusing a metric shitton on social features instead of actual gameplay). Accurate car models, and you can look at all the tiny details, like in Forza. So nothing remarkable there either.

inFamous: Second Son is also announced. Same as the previous two, nothing special. Then comes Deep Down, with a gameplay trailer that looks more like a tech demo than a worthile game. What did it look like? Well it looked like a clumsy overencumbered knight fighting a dragon. The art style kinda makes me think of Dark Souls, but the graphical effects certainly don't. The graphics were simply amazing. Finally, something that shows promise. Now let's hope the released title will look good too, because they already spiced up the graphics on games in trailers before (looking at you, Uncharted 2 and 3) only for the actual game to look like poop.

A Ubisoft rep then shows up on stage, and things get interesting because recently, Ubisoft is actually doing good challenging but entertaining games that actually work; a rare thing to come by these days. Though the announcement the rep was to make was hardly a surprise: Watch_Dogs is also coming to the PS4. And the gameplay was jaw-dropping. It's a GTA-like game that puts all this social media technology bullshit into the negative limelight (kind of ironic, given they're announcing the game coming to a fancy console filled with the social media technology bullshit) and puts the player in the shoes of some sort of vigilante that can hack into any kind of electronic device and use it any way he pleases, be it for good or bad. So, you can expect hacking cell phones, bank accounts, street lights, the motherfucking New York metro trains in an open world where you may help people or just create chaos, like the shameless cyberterrorist you are.

This game was also showcased at E3 2012 on PC, so we already knew it looks great, but I'll say it again: WOW, it looks fantastic. Wonderful physics, from the tiny straps on the guy's coat flailing in the wind up to spectacular car crashes. I'm not sure if these nice graphics are due to the PS4 flexing its muscles or just the result of hard work optimizing the game, but if there's one game that made the PS4 look desirable during the entire conference, it's Watch_Dogs.

Blizzard makes Diablo 3 available for the PS3 and PS4. Again, nothing special, and quite fitting for consoles, given how much that game got dumbed down and turned into a a nightmare of social shenannigans.

Then comes Activision. And to my surprise, they bring up Bungie, the massive development studio behind the Halo franchise. Recently let loose by Microsoft, they signed a partnership with Activision and announced a MMOFPS called Destiny. The game itself isn't as great of a shock as the presence of Bungie. And then they announcement "exclusive content" for the game, on Playstation platform - both the PS3 and PS4. While exclusive content might seem like a good idea to attract more people to buying the game on the PS3 or PS4, that might just upset other playerbases if Bungie decides to go multiplatform (and the game will be released on several platforms).

So, not a lot of remarkable tech. A lot of buzzwords. Studio representatives that were payed off to praise the PS4's hardware. Fairly average games, much like we were used to, with a couple standing out. A lot of tacked-on social media bullshit. A message saying "Coming holiday 2013".

So, let's wait and see what Sony brings us in late November.

EDIT: I forgot to mention cloud-gaming. The PS4 will support cloud gaming, which means you can play something while it's still downloading from PSN, or if someone gets stuck at some part of a game, at his request you can take control of his character in game, remotely from your own PS4 and play. Bunch of gimmicks meant to cater to casuals, not really even worth mentioning.

EDIT2: There was also some hipster claiming he got tear gassed that ranted about Big Brother. But he's obviously a retard, since the console he is developing on is the motherfucking Big Brother.

tl;dr - Too much social media, too little video games.

nah dude, it was a pc, not a console...

as i seen from the big presentation of Heavy Rain(on ps3) that was shown as the best game ever made(ps and non) and then when i played it i seen that was a crap of game for more than one reason, starting from most little errors as texture mapping(and generally textures) or basicly any sign of AA, to see people going through objects(that i really cant accept)..

so lets talk about it when will be real and not from few videos maybe made paying attention to not use buggy "components" of the game itself, and with this i wont say that the game is not great, because i like it alot, its just that i dont trust anymore in sony since psp

You know, I'm kinda sick of how Playstation and Xbox have their own exclusive games, and they look amazing. Yet PC has to dumb down their games just so consoles can run them. I reckon PC should have their own exclusive games, imagine how amazing they would look? I still don't seem to understand why consoles have such shitty (excuse the language) specs.. PC will live forever. I can't wait till consoles die out to be honest.

Well Marco, I'm still hoping it was on actual PS3 hardware. Because Sony already has a reputation of spicing up trailers and shit. In a way I'm also concerned that they didn't show the actual console, nor did they give any CPU or GPU specs and instead just said "supercharged" and "enchanced".

Also, we already knew Watch_Dogs looks good since E3 2012, so no real surprises there. What surprised me is that the PS4 was capable of running it at the same aparent level of detail as a PC.

So yeah, unless MS brings KB+M support to the table with the new Xbox, I'm sticking to PC.

So your saying those games aren't really what it will look like? What is KB+M also sorry? I still reckon Microsoft should have had windows supporting xbox 360 games, Windows 8 got hyped up way to much I reckon.

KB+M = Keyboard + Mouse.

And yes, there's a distinct possibility the games demoed are running on actual PC hardware, hardware more powerful than what the actual console has, or the game might simply get a lot of visual stuff cut to meet performance demands.

If anything, this conference creates more doubt than certainty.

Oh okay thank you. That racing game looks like PS4 graphics, that dragon game, that had to be PC hardware without a doubt. It looked way too amazing. Where is this one that you spoke of how the cloth and stuff was falling off him? But yeah I watched the gameplay of Killzone 4, and it looked utter terrible..

The witcher 3 looks a bit eh as well.

Ah Watch dogs.

Added 1 minute later:

Also you can tell Ubisoft made that, it looks similar to Assassins Creed with the whole bit where he gets the guys info etc.

It is basically Assasin's Creed in the modern day. Except it's an Assasin's Creed that isn't boring as fuck.

Though I really don't understand why CDPR even bothers releasing The Witcher 3 on consoles. They released The Witcher 2 and people barely bought it. I mean, it's not babby's first A/RPG like Skyrim or Dragon Age, so consoles really aren't the target audience gameplay-wise. So either CDPR is willing to sacrifice money, or they dumb it down.

as proof there is that gpu test they did, the thingy of "pyramids rain".. not much gaming pcs can do that, so i really doubt that a console can either
